Hey friends! Anyone else enjoy watching those day-in-the-life videos on TikTok every once in a while? I think it’s so interesting and fun to get a glimpse into someone else’s day to day, and I thought it might be fun to help you get to know me a little better by doing something similar on the blog! So here goes, a day in the life of Whitney Marshall Photo!
I live off of structure and routine, and my morning routine is super important to me as it gets me off to the right start for the day. It usually looks something like:
I always have to do this first thing when I wake up in the morning. It makes me feel good and productive at the start of the day and it’s easy to do, so, win-win!
Once the bed is made I brew my cup of coffee for the day and spend time in morning prayer. I love this little pocket of space I can carve out to nourish my soul! (Fun Fact: I am a sipper when it comes to coffee. I’m that person that will microwave it like 5x as I nurse it throughout the day, haha.)
No morning routine would be complete without a good breakfast (my favorite meal of the day!) My go-to is scrambled eggs with toast, and maybe some strawberries on the side. Now I’m fully energized and ready to go.
My work routine varies depending on what day it is. This is common for a lot of photographers, who will often set aside particular days or time blocks for shooting, and other days or time blocks for editing. (Taking pictures is only a fraction of what a photographer does!) I get even more variety, because in addition to being a photographer I also work part-time as a home health Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).
To get it all done I divide my week mostly like this:
My photography office/focused days are: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I start off these days by checking my emails and then spend most of the rest of the time editing. Most of my sessions are weddings, and I like to sort these galleries into sections, such as: Details, Getting Ready, Ceremony, Reception, etc. This helps me to stay organized as I tackle editing throughout the week. It’s much easier to work on it in stages and say, “Today I am going to edit and finish the ceremony portion of this wedding gallery, tomorrow I’ll work on the details section, etc.”
My part-time home health SLP job I work on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Saturdays and Sundays you will probably find me out capturing love for my beautiful clients’ wedding days and/or doing associate shooting or second shooting with other amazing photographers!
Other photography tasks you will find me working on throughout the week are bookkeeping, taxes, client inquiry calls, prepping & ordering client photo albums, preparing and sending off client wedding gifts, and more!
After I’ve finished work, I like to move my body, especially on days I’ve been sitting at my desk for a long time editing! If the weather is nice I like to take my dog on a walk around the neighborhood and get some fresh air. If it’s not so nice, I’ll do a short cardio workout at home.
Then it is time to shower, eat dinner with my husband when he gets home from work, and spend the rest of the night relaxing. Most evening you will find me watching my favorite show on Netflix or reading a good book on my Kindle cozied up on the couch or in bed!
The best part of my daily routine? The fact that I love what I do! Every day I feel blessed by all the good in my life, and even more blessed that I get to share in the joys and special moments of others’ lives through my work as a photographer.
