A few months ago I shared some of my favorite ideas for fun and romantic date night ideas in Colorado Springs. But…that was back in the summertime, when it’s a lot easier to be out and about exploring new places. Obviously you can totally do that in the winter too! But for me, I know I tend to crave a cozy night at home when it’s snowy and cold outside! So, with the holidays just around the corner, here are a few cozy ideas for a date night in, with a few local suggestions specific to Colorado!
Light a few candles, make yourself a cup of cocoa, and let’s get started!
Sometimes it’s fun to just be a kid again, you know? And personally I think there’s no better time than Christmas to do exactly that! So grab your blankets, make a fort, and have an indoor picnic or play a game together.
Is there a particular series you both like? Or a movie genre you can’t get enough of? Take movie night to the next level by choosing a theme or binging a series. A popcorn bar with some fun toppings will make this extra special and memorable!
If you prefer to go out for the movies, be sure to check out Roadhouse Cinemas here in Colorado Springs, where you can grab dinner and a show at the same time! Even if you’re too full from the meal to eat popcorn, I always recommend taking some to go and enjoying it later at home. It’s delicious, and hey, why not!?
There’s something really fun about being in the kitchen together making something you both love. Whether this is a fancy dinner or a favorite sweet treat, pair it with some music and candles to make it fun and romantic!
If you don’t feel like making dinner from scratch, have it delivered instead! I love doing this occasionally for a super easy, no-cleanup option. And since there are so few dishes on the table, it just makes sense to break out some favorite board or card games and make a night of it!
Classes can be so fun, especially if they’re about something you’re both interested in! There are so many online options you can do from the comfort of your own home. Pour yourselves a glass of wine and gather your ingredients! If an in-person class would be more fun, check out local cooking classes in Colorado through The French Kitchen. They offer a ton of courses—and you get to take your culinary creations home with you at the end!
It’s that time of year, so put on your favorite holiday movie and make some festive treats together! I absolutely adore Christmas cookies and love trying out some new recipes every year. For me, bonus points if it involves Oreos or chocolate. I’m sure you have your own favorite combos—or will discover some new ones!
If cookies feel like too much, try a Christmas Chex mix. Be careful though, this stuff is addictive. I can eat a whole bowl in one sitting if I don’t rein myself in!
Or, if baking isn’t your thing but you are all about cookies, grab some from my favorite local cookie store, Mary’s Mountain Cookies. So many options, and every single one is divine!
My favorite Christmas movies (if you’re needing ideas) are:
I’ve got plenty more, as I love Christmas so much! But these are my top three that I love to watch every holiday season. Hope you love them too! If you’ve got your own faves be sure to share them in the comments!
Okay, I know this isn’t exactly an idea for a date night in, but it’s definitely cozy and romantic, so I’m adding it! Spa nights are so cozy you’ll completely forget you’re not at home, right? (And you can absolutely do your own spa night in—just slip into your comfiest robes and whip up a couple of face masks or body scrubs.)
My favorite spa ever is SunWater Spa in Manitou Springs. (I recently got a prenatal massage here and it was the best ever.) If you haven’t tried it yet, you need to. It’s amazing! They have so many relaxing spa options, or you can just soak in a hot mineral tub while enjoying Colorado’s gorgeous mountain views!
It may not be super original, but there’s a reason it’s alive and well and making my list of cozy ideas for a date night in. Netflix and child nights are never a bad idea. They’re easy (forgot you were in charge of date night this week?), cozy (snuggle sessions on the couch never get old), and easy to elevate if you so choose (add a comfy new blanket to cuddle under, make gourmet hot chocolate and a big bowl of popcorn, or do a plate of loaded nachos). Sometimes simple is best!
Cozy up on the couch with your laptops or phones and look at hotels, flights, and things to do at your dream destination. By yourself, planning a vacation can feel a little overwhelming. But together, it can make for a fun and cozy at home date night. If you don’t have a big trip in the works, why not brainstorm a bucket list or vision board? Looking to the future together can help get you both excited for the adventures that the new year will bring!
I hope these cozy ideas for a date night in help you to have fun and create new memories over these cold winter months! And if there are memories you want to document—or if that next big adventure you’re planning is a wedding or elopement!—be sure to get in touch! As a Colorado wedding photographer, I love capturing beautiful moments and memories between couples and would be truly honored to help you share your story.
Warmly,
Whitney Marshall
