Personally, I like to spend some time with my couples either in-person or over a video chat so we can get to know each other and make sure we vibe well together! I want your session to be an enormous success, and part of that means becoming friends so we can relax and have fun during your shoot!

Use Fun and Candid Prompts

If you tense up in front of the camera, that’s probably because you either:

• have memories since you were a kid of being told to look a certain way for pictures (“say cheese!”) or
• are worried that you will somehow look unnatural and won’t know how to hold your body and facial expressions.

A good photographer can help you overcome those hurdles by guiding you with gentle directions into poses that look and feel totally natural. These kinds of prompts allow your photographer to capture great moments organically, without making you feel stiff or awkward. Rather than go for formal poses, I prefer using fun, candid, even goofy prompts to help my couples feel relaxed. When we’re laughing and joking together, you’ll forget the camera is even there!

Engage in Favorite Activities

Another thing that can help you get gorgeous couples photos even if you’re camera-shy is to center your shoot around an activity you both enjoy, or an activity that is part of your relationship or love story!

This can literally be anything. Walking in the park, sharing a laugh over a cup of coffee, or wining and dining with a picnic in your favorite spot are all activities that provide great photo opps! Sometimes, just having something to keep you busy and distracted is exactly what you need to relax and simply enjoy being with the person you love most!
