I am so very excited to share a few of my top tips for how to plan a wedding! As a Colorado Springs Engagement and Wedding Photographer, I have walked through this process with couples many times, and am happy to share this guide with you. I hope it proves helpful as you get ready to make your dream wedding a reality!
Your Colorado Springs Wedding Planning Guide: Tips and Advice for the Perfect Wedding Day
1. Determine Your Wedding Date
First, determine your wedding date! Sometimes this can be influenced by factors beyond your control, like your own life circumstances or the schedules of family members that you really want to be part of your special day. But if you have some flexibility, I recommend starting out by thinking about what season and temperatures you like best. You want to enjoy your special day, and the weather can play a big part in that!
For example, if you’re not a fan of the cold, avoid planning your wedding in the winter months in Colorado, as winters here can be quite chilly. (Not to mention they last a long time too! Sometimes as long as November to May.) Maybe a summer wedding would be more your jam, or a destination wedding to a warmer climate.
Once you have a general idea of when you want your wedding to take place, you can zero in on a specific date.
2. Think About Your Wedding Style and Size
I also recommend thinking about whether you want a small, intimate ceremony, or a big, pull-out-all-the-stops kind of day. This will influence all of your other decisions, so it’s important to get this settled in your mind.
If you want a smaller wedding with just your closest family and friends, you might think about a destination or elopement style wedding. If you have always dreamed about a big wedding celebration with a hoppin’ party afterwards, then a full wedding day will definitely be the way to go!
Ultimately, I would encourage you to plan a day that is designed to reflect YOU and your love story. You will encounter all kinds of ideas and advice as you plan your wedding, but always remember, it’s YOUR wedding. Don’t feel pressured to conform to a particular wedding trend or include things that don’t feel like they fit with your love story and who the two of you are as a couple!
3. Search for Your Dream Wedding Venue
Once you have your wedding date confirmed, and an idea of the kind of wedding you want, the next step is to start searching for your dream wedding venue! I recommend doing this as early in the process as possible to increase the chances that your top choice will have your wedding date available.

4. Find Wedding Vendors
Now that you have booked and secured your wedding venue, it’s time to start searching for the wedding vendors that you would like to be part of your special day!
Wedding Photographer ~ Personally, I recommend that you start by booking your wedding photographer and videographer first, as their schedules can fill up very quickly. Finding the right person to capture memories of this magical chapter in your love story is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your Colorado Springs wedding, so it is worthwhile to prioritize it!
Other Wedding Vendors ~ Once you have your wedding photographer/videographer booked, you’ll want to start contacting your other wedding day vendors. These might include:
- Wedding planner or coordinator
- Florist
- Hair and makeup artists
- Catering company
- DJ
- And more! What you need for wedding vendors will depend very much on the type of wedding you have planned. For example, an officiant, stationer, or favors vendor might also be on your list, depending on what you want your day to look like.
